		<description>About UsThrough the fate of algorithms and the proximity of their respective offices, Irene and Davis met in New York City in December, 2017.
Davis, perhaps confusing his dating profile for a professional networking site, managed to woo Irene with photos of his hunching posture and academic credentials. Irene was intrigued.

Irene and Davis started to explore their world together. They searched for books, ate yummy foods, and dreamed.Whether in Oaxaca or from a distance, we welcome you.

Oaxaca

Oaxaca de Juárez is the capital and largest city in the Mexican state of Oaxaca (wə-HA-kə).The name of the state comes from the Náhuatl (the language of the Aztecs) word Hauxyacac, which means "on the top of the guaje tree." &#38;nbsp;

	&#60;img width="1200" height="1741" width_o="1200" height_o="1741" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/cbd40949669fee4f1c4603a300e0937898aa80cd86acb55a1c76dcf2290d41f5/Leucaena_leucocephala_Blanco2.400.png" data-mid="180624126" border="0" data-scale="63" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/cbd40949669fee4f1c4603a300e0937898aa80cd86acb55a1c76dcf2290d41f5/Leucaena_leucocephala_Blanco2.400.png" /&#62;
Leucaena leucocephala, The Guaje Tree or White Tamarind

Zapotec and Mixtec settlements existed in the Oaxacan valley for thousands of years prior to Spanish colonization. As such, the region holds great significance to the indigenous communities of Mexico.
Climate
Oaxaca’s sub-tropical climate makes for pleasant conditions throughout the year. A rainy season during the summer gives way to mostly dry conditions throughout the remaining months. December is one of the dryest months of the year, with average temperatures of 63o. Expect the temperature to rise during the day to 80o&#38;nbsp;and dropping at night to as low as 50o.&#38;nbsp;

Arrival by Flight

To get to Oaxaca, fly into Xoxocotlán International Airport (OAX). There are international direct flights to Oaxaca from Dallas, Houston, and Los Angeles. Most other flight options will have a layover in Mexico City. Please consider that extra time is necessary for customs and passport control in Mexico City.

Travel to City Center
Taxi services at Xoxocotlán Airport can easily transport you to Centro Historico. Purchase tickets for taxi services (the shuttle bus, or Colectivo, is our go-to) at the kiosk inside the airport before leaving the building. The trip will take ~20 minutes, and rates range between 200 and 300 pesos, or 12 to 18 dollars. Additionally, many hotels offer shuttle services, but may require advance notice.&#38;nbsp;</description>

Accomodations

Oaxaca offers many types of accomodations. All of the events of our wedding will take place in the city’s center (Centro Histórico). Keep in mind that the central city is very walkable; all of these locations are within blocks of each other. To aid in planning your stay, we have confirmed availability for rooms at several hotels in the area.
As an alternative, we would encourage guests to consider booking a short-term home rental, such as through AirBnB.&#38;nbsp;
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions. We are more than happy to check your AirBnB or other hotel for its location.&#38;nbsp;

Zocalo

Oaxaca’s central square has been a gathering space for the city for over 500 years. It is lively with demonstrations and celebrations at almost any hour.&#38;nbsp;Start out in the main square and bounce around the many famous landmarks nearby.&#38;nbsp;

Botanical Gardens

Oaxaca’s wealth of flora has been curated and concentrated into the Jardín Etnobotánico de Oaxaca. The gardens occupy a portion of the Dominican convent that includes the Church of Santo Domingo.&#38;nbsp;
We encourage you to walk through a collection of almost a thousand plant species in this beautifully laid-out botanical garden, each native to the state from its cold mountains to humid tropics. Guided tours take around an hour and are available in English.

A visit to the botanical gardens is easily combined with the cathedral and the culture museum, as they’re all located on the same grounds.

Getting lost wandering around the city’s many markets is part of the Oaxacan experience. You will find delicious food as well as plenty of interesting souvenirs. Markets are an integral part of life in Oaxaca, and we encourage you to take a few hours to enjoy the atmosphere.

The most well-known market is Mercado Benito Juarez, where you can try Oaxacan classics like mole, pick up some local cheese and mezcal. Mercado 20 de Noviembre, another popular market is right beside and both of the markets are in the center of town.

For a real cultural experience, travel about a half hour east of Oaxaca on a Sunday to get to the weekly Tlacolula de Matamoros market. It’s one of the oldest markets in Mesoamerica and one of the largest markets not just in Oaxaca, but this entire region of Mexico.

Explorations

Hierve el Agua

This is the popular petrified waterfall of Oaxaca and one of the most amazing natural wonders in Mexico that you must visit. Hierve El Agua is located 60km (1 hour and 40 minutes car ride) away from the Oaxaca city center. Here you’ll see amazing rock formations that resemble cascading waterfalls.

It is one of the best day trips in the area because it’s a perfect place to connect with nature, do a hike and enjoy breathtaking views.

There are also natural mineral springs that you can soak in. While the name means “boiling water” in Spanish, the water can actually be a bit cold here. It’s still nice and refreshing to take a dip, especially after hiking around the area for a while.

Hierve el Agua can be combined with a trip to Mitla. Tip: Check out Mexico’s most famous tree, the Arbol del Tule on the way out of Oaxaca City on this day trip.

	&#60;img width="627" height="627" width_o="627" height_o="627" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/84343d5cc5730f44dcf37e37115b6243f96513b42b844484177a8248b857708a/mitla.jpg" data-mid="180606567" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/627/i/84343d5cc5730f44dcf37e37115b6243f96513b42b844484177a8248b857708a/mitla.jpg" /&#62;

Mitla
Mitla is also said to be the most important site for the Zapotec culture. While Monte Alban was the political centre for the Zapotecs, Mitla was the religious centre. It is located 40 km (50 minutes car ride) from the city center.

An interpretation of the past says that Mitla was a “place for rest” or, a place for the dead. Mitla comes from the word “Mictlan” and one of its meanings is “the underworld”.

Mitla is a pre-Columbian archeological site that expresses the Mesoamerican belief that death was the most consequential part of life after birth. It was built as a gateway between the world of the living and the world of the dead.

	&#60;img width="600" height="600" width_o="600" height_o="600" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/07155267b3cdff7cb48d8e77e64d74cb51ad5ec4400337edf7a5463616904b62/montealban.jpg" data-mid="180606857" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/600/i/07155267b3cdff7cb48d8e77e64d74cb51ad5ec4400337edf7a5463616904b62/montealban.jpg" /&#62;
Monte Alban
Far and away one of the most popular things to do in Oaxaca is taking a day trip out to the ruins at Monte Alban (White Mountain). It is a UNESCO World Heritage List site. Built by the Zapotecs, this is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in all of Latin America.

It is less than 10km (30 minutes car ride) away from Oaxaca city. The site is located on a low mountainous range rising above the plain in the central section of the Oaxaca valley. This is a great day trip for history and culture lovers but also nature lovers as the views from the highest points are simply breathtaking.

Questions, Answers

	Is the wedding kid-friendly?
To allow all wedding guests a night of relaxation, we respectfully ask that no children attend the Saturday reception.

As a childcare option for Saturday evening, our wedding planner regularly coordinates with local nurses. To hire their services, please contact our planner at the following email address:
alejandragonzalez@marcelagonzalezg.com

How do I get to the wedding events?
The central district is designed around 100m2 blocks. For comparison, the distance between blocks in Oaxaca is 1/3 of the distance between avenues in New York City. As such, the entire center is very walkable. The city does have a robust taxi service, distinguishable by their yellow cabs.
We recommend that you take a taxi after a long night, especially if you have been sampling the city’s many mezcals.
What are Oaxaqueño wedding traditions?Weddings in Oaxaca include three traditional aspects: a ceremony, calenda, and reception. These events string together to form a celebration that lasts from early afternoon and late into the night!&#38;nbsp;A calenda is a celebratory parade through the city streets. This immediately follows the ceremony and will take all of our guests to the reception space. Expect dancing, mezcal, puppets, and more as we wind through the city.

	Will Korean wedding traditions will be present?&#38;nbsp;
