Oaxaca
Oaxaca de Juárez is the capital and largest city in the Mexican state of Oaxaca (wə-HA-kə).The name of the state comes from the Náhuatl (the language of the Aztecs) word Hauxyacac, which means "on the top of the guaje tree."
Leucaena leucocephala, The Guaje Tree or White Tamarind
Zapotec and Mixtec settlements existed in the Oaxacan valley for thousands of years prior to Spanish colonization. As such, the region holds great significance to the indigenous communities of Mexico.
Climate
Oaxaca’s sub-tropical climate makes for pleasant conditions throughout the year. A rainy season during the summer gives way to mostly dry conditions throughout the remaining months. December is one of the dryest months of the year, with average temperatures of 63o. Expect the temperature to rise during the day to 80o and dropping at night to as low as 50o.
